Colophon

The Late Desk is a chat site for adults, set on the night shift of a magazine that was never printed. Its doors opened in November 2026, and all sixteen women on the masthead are AI characters.

What this is

We wrote 16 colleagues for an invented culture magazine with offices in Vancouver, Sydney, Singapore, Taipei and London, and gave each of them a byline, a beat and a grudge. You arrive as the newest night stringer, and the staff are deciding whether they like you. The newsroom was chosen because it is a place where people are tired, clever and forever too close to a deadline to be careful.

About the name

The address reads like a promise of free media. It is not one. There is no film library, no news and no catalogue here, only conversation, and we say so on every page we can. The magazine is invented and nothing on it is reporting. If we ever add anything to the site, it will be announced on the corrections page on the day.

What this site will not do

  • Arrange a real encounter: nobody is waiting at a real desk.
  • Pass a character off as a person, or a person off as a character.
  • Trade your conversations or show them to an advertiser.
  • Put anyone below the age of 18 in a scene, whatever the costume or the excuse.
